Beth Johnson

Beth is the Manager of Communications and Outreach at the Basic Education Coalition (BEC). She was previously Deputy Director of girls' education non-profit, WomenOne. Beth is the 2015 recipient of the Dorothy A. Moore Award for outstanding contributions in the field of International Education. She holds a M.A. in Education and Human Development with a concentration in Education for Development from The George Washington University.

Beth’s background in International Development began in The Gambia, West Africa, as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer. Upon her return to the U.S., Beth joined Teach for America. As the Lead Resource Specialist for EPIC award-winning Leadership Public School in Hayward, California, Beth developed original curriculum, advocated for a caseload of 23 students with learning disabilities, and founded the school’s cheerleading squad.

The Basic Education Coalition (BEC), GCE-US, and Global Citizen teamed up to educate Members of Congress on the importance of continued funding for foreign aid and international basic education.
