Keosha Varela

Keosha Varela joined the InterAction team in 2018 as Communications Director. Varela joined InterAction from 270 Strategies, a public engagement firm where she was Vice President and Content Director. During her tenure at 270, Keosha led a team of writers and strategists dedicated to producing smart messaging and shaping winning online and offline media campaigns.

Prior to her time at 270 Strategies, Varela was Senior Digital Editor and Producer at the Aspen Institute, a nonprofit educational organization, where she helped to lead the Institute's digital channels and editorial content. While there she completed two fellowships as part of the 2015 class of the International Career Advancement Program (ICAP) and the 2015 class of the Women’s Executive Leadership Program (WELP).

Before working in the nonprofit and consulting sectors, Varela spent three years as a new media editor and producer at NPR affiliate stations in Washington, D.C., and in Boston, where she and her colleagues received the 2011 National Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence ­ Radio Station Website.

She began her career at the NBC News headquarters in New York City, working with producers on the “TODAY Show,” MSNBC, and “Dateline,” and worked on the launch team of the African-American website TheGrio.com. She holds an M.A. in Broadcast Journalism and a B.A. in Print Journalism from American University in Washington, D.C., and served on the school’s Alumni Board.
