Michael Gubser

Michael Gubser (Ph.D. - University of California, Berkeley) is a professor of history at James Madison University and a 2021-2022 Guggenheim Fellow.

His research focuses on international development and intellectual history. He is currently completing a book entitled Their Future: A History of Ahistoricism in International Development. With InterAction fellow Jerrold Keilson, he co-edited The Practice of International Development (Routledge, 2018), a book of essays written by development practitioners; and he co-founded the Center for Development History.  He has worked as a program evaluator and proposal writer for numerous foreign aid organizations. He is also the author of two books on modern European intellectual history; and the writer-composer of the musical INTO THE SUN, based on British World War I poets.
