InterAction’s Response to the President’s FY2025 Budget Request

Amidst the backdrop of pressing global challenges, the President’s FY2025 Budget request falls significantly short. In the past 30 days alone, we have witnessed the eruption of violence in Haiti, a quarter of Gaza’s population grappling with starvation, and nearly 9 million people newly displaced by conflict in Sudan.

Underinvesting in foreign assistance at this pivotal moment could incur heightened costs for taxpayers in the future, as today’s unresolved issues are poised to escalate into more significant security, health, and development challenges tomorrow.

Compounding this urgency, the President’s Budget Request for FY2025, comes at a time when the FY2024 funding remains under threat from potential cuts and sequestration. Moreover, supplemental funding for growing humanitarian needs has not been passed.

InterAction urges Congress to finish the FY2024 appropriations bills and avoid the deep cuts of sequestration. Additionally, we call on Congress to pass a supplemental bill with no less than the Senate-passed $9.16 billion to address urgent global humanitarian and development needs through the end of 2024. Finally, we request Congress and the Administration work together to build upon the FY2025 request. This includes the development of a State and Foreign Operations Bill that underscores American generosity and leadership in a world grappling with multifaceted challenges.
