InterAction Reacts to U.S.–OCHA $1.8 Billion Announcement

InterAction welcomes today’s U.S. announcement of additional humanitarian funding through the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, including the addition of three high‑priority countries. Building on the previous tranche, this announcement reflects continued progress at a time of rising humanitarian needs and constrained global resources.

“This is a critical and very welcome investment in the life‑saving humanitarian system,” said Tom Hart, President and CEO of InterAction. “At a time of growing need, this funding will help sustain frontline efforts and reach communities facing the most acute crises.”

Hart noted this tranche provides a longer timeline to implement life‑saving programs and additional high-priority countries, while continuing the flexible, country-based approach, which strengthens the ability of frontline organizations to deliver assistance effectively, monitor results, and be held accountable for impact.

“This reflects meaningful progress in getting assistance where it’s needed, in partnership with experienced international nonprofit organizations who are best positioned to deliver the impact quickly, efficiently and transparently,” Hart said. “As implementation moves forward, continued efforts to fully leverage these partners will be essential, alongside the UN managing assistance on the basis of need so that humanitarian action remains impartial while also meeting donor requirements.”

“It sets an encouraging tone for the year ahead,” Hart added, “even as the gap between humanitarian needs and available resources remains significant—and underscores the importance of other donor governments stepping up to help meet needs that far exceed current funding levels.”
