The DEI Compact

INGO Commitments toward Greater Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

InterAction understands that collaboration and bold action from the international non-governmental organization (INGO) community are vital to driving change. We also know that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are essential for effective and sustainable assistance to marginalized communities worldwide.

The DEI Compact is an important step by the InterAction community to urgently work to improve INGO programming, operations, learning, and advocacy around DEI.

The INGO Commitments toward Greater Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (“the Commitments”) laid out within the Compact enable organizations to endorse shared acknowledgments and actions. Through continued collective work, these will help our sector develop a culture across organizations that champions DEI with its practices, incentives, and accountability. Our experiences inherently define the Compact. As a coalition of largely U.S.-based organizations that work worldwide, the Compact blends U.S. and global perspectives.

In addition to the Commitments, the Compact includes an initial compendium of resources (below). Designed by and for the INGO community, the materials below can serve as reference points for signatory organizations working to meet the Commitments.

Consistent with calls across many institutions and industries throughout the U.S. and around the world to do more to address systemic and systematic issues of racism, sexism, tribalism, inequality, and inequity, the Compact is our community’s promise to do better in concrete ways.
