Abdel Shishani

Program Manager, Policy

Abdel Shishani joined InterAction in April 2024 as a Program Manager for the Humanitarian Policy and Practice team. His role involves working with the Humanitarian Policy team to represent and position the international NGO voice in policy discussions. He will support the team in developing humanitarian guidance and implementing reforms to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the humanitarian response system, working with the Grand Bargain, U.N.-NGO Partnerships, and the localization portfolio.

Abdel is a skilled humanitarian project manager with extensive field experience working closely with communities affected by conflict in Jordan and Iraq. Early in his career, he worked on youth programming, serving as a key player in the community engagement unit at Blumont. He later joined UNHCR’s Protection Team, gaining valuable experience in human rights, advocacy, and protection program implementation. In 2018, Abdel moved to Iraq to join Terre des Hommes Italia, where he managed health and child protection projects serving refugees and internally displaced communities. Throughout his career, he focused on fostering community leadership and participation, such as through youth-led groups and community-based protection networks. Abdel is passionate about promoting more equitable, participatory, and community-led responses.

Abdel is originally from Jordan, with Chechen roots, and speaks both Arabic and Chechen. He holds an L.L.B. from the University of Jordan and an M.A. in International Affairs from the Fletcher School, Tufts University.
